The Charger is a machine in Horizon Zero Dawn.

Appearance

The Charger, like a few other machines in the game, resembles a grazing, bovine-type creature, this one more resembling a bull, yak, or ram due to the shape and configuration of the horns. It's horns appear to be chainsaws.

The Charger seems to share a nearly identical chassis design with the Strider and Broadhead, with its main difference being the head design.

History

Chargers were made by HEPHAESTUS, the subordinate function of GAIA that was responsible for creating terraforming machines. The Charger was most likely used to terraform terrains for GAIA and transport resources to Cauldrons to make more machines.

The Derangement

Like all other machines, the Charger became more aggressive towards humans instead of fleeing and shying away from them after the Derangement. The horns on their head are now not only for digging into the ground and harvesting resources but are also used to cut through and smash down human hunters. They still sometimes flee in herds when an attacker is spotted, but they will most likely stay to fight back.

Abilities

The Charger uses an attack known as the Charge Attack, which, like many others, is an attack in which the machine charges at the attacker. Like many of its counterparts, such as the Grazer, this machine uses a backwards kick or leap to harm enemies from the rear.

Trivia

  • It is possible that the Charger's name is a reference to the American muscle car of the same name, built by Dodge. Dodge uses a ram as its logo.
  • Chargers can be utilized as flying mounts by performing a trick in Brightmarket.[1]
