Salmon are a species of wildlife in Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West commonly found in deep bodies of water or in streams and rivers. When killed, they drop loot vital for several crafting recipes.

Salmon will not attack or cause any harm to Aloy.
In Zero Dawn, they will not react to Aloy's proximity or attacks. In Forbidden West however, they will swim faster upon detecting Aloy and can be caught by hand.

When killed, Salmon will drop common items such as various types of meat but sometimes they will drop either Fish Skin or Fish Bone in Zero Dawn, or Salmon Skin or Salmon Bone in Forbidden West, all very valuable items that are useful for trading with merchants.
