Ligan is a minor character in Horizon Zero Dawn. He is a semi-retired member of the Hunters Lodge in Meridian.

History[]

Hailing from a noble Carja family, Ligan became a Hawk of the Hunters Lodge in his youth.

The Massacre[]

Ligan was among those that witnessed the Massacre, the event that ended in the deaths of many Hawks, including Talanah's brother and father. Ligan was unable to join his fellow Hunters Lodge members in defending the condemned during the Massacre, having been unarmed at the time. Thus, he was forced to watch from the stands as his comrades fell to the machines before him.

Sometime afterwards, Ligan retired from hunting, choosing to serve the Lodge in other ways.

When Hawk Tarkas attempted to take down Redmaw, Ligan went to watch the battle. He personally witnessed Tarkas' death to Redmaw's Disc Launchers.

Aloy[]

When Aloy attempted to join the Hunters Lodge, Ligan explained the customs of the Lodge, and directed her to speak with Ahsis in order to find herself a sponsor. As she moved through the ranks under Talanah's mentorship, Ligan offered her polite encouragement.

When Ahsis and Talanah left in pursuit of Redmaw, Ligan urged Aloy to follow them, warning her that he witnessed outlanders following Talanah.

After Aloy successfully defeated Redmaw alongside Talanah, Ligan congratulated her, commenting that he wished he'd recognized her potential from the beginning. He also expressed approval for Talanah's leadership as the new Sunhawk, noting that her guidance had brought new vigor to the Lodge.

Sunhawk Talanah[]

Under Talanah, Ligan continued to work in service of the Lodge, denying entry to the hunter Kyran when he attempted to take the hunting contract for the village of Rising Light without Talanah's approval. Two days later, when Talanah claimed the contract for herself, Ligan was not surprised. During her absence, Talanah placed Ligan in charge of the Lodge.

Personality[]

Although polite to Aloy, like many in the Lodge, he initially underestimates Aloy's potential, being surprised when Aloy brings in a trophy from a Stalker. Upon learning she is going to collect a Thunderjaw trophy, he tells Aloy she should ask for advice from Ardik (though he also gives critical information to her about Ahsis' past actions). It is only once Aloy helps Talanah take down Redmaw that he recognizes her skill.

The reason for Ligan's favoring of Ardik over Aloy appears to be revealed when he comments that the Banuk hunter reminds him of himself when he was younger.
