Marzid the Illuminated was the eleventh Sun-King of the Carja tribe.
History[]
Marzid was known for his artistic and visionary nature: during the sixth year of his reign, he ordered the construction of the Citadel at Sunfall, which would serve as his summer palace.[1] Marzid would oversee the construction of art in his image throughout Meridian, and the transformation of Sunfall from a little-used fortress to an artisan city with a prominent place in the Sundom's culture.
Death[]
Marzid would die in the Citadel, his illness ironically caused by prolonged exposure to toxic fumes from his own beloved paints. For his state funeral, a line of torches was laid across the Daybrink, ensuring that he would go in light as his body was brought to the Alight for burial.[2]
He was succeeded by his older brother, the Radiant Hivas.
Trivia[]
- Marzid is the earliest Sun-King for whom records of his length of reign can be found (at least six years).
- When starting the quest Honor The Fallen, the Sun-Priest Mournful Namman mentions his Sun-robes were originally dyed red with cinnabar. Cinnabar contains mercury, which is highly toxic and causes psychotic reactions, and could be what led to the death of Marzid and later caused Sun-King Jiran to go mad.
