Hey Heshbruwn. I'm Julia from Fandom's Community team. By now you may have seen our announcement about Wiki Modernization and how we're using featured wiki videos to reduce the number of ads on the site and improve the performance of all Fandom wikis.
As we move forward we plan to have wiki videos in many communities, with Horizon Zero Dawn wiki being a candidate for videos. If you are interested in which video types we might use you can find some great examples in this blog post. If we start producing videos we may reach out to you, other admins, and users to be involved in writing video scripts or being part of the production process.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! Springteufel (talk) 13:30, May 23, 2017 (UTC)
Hi Julia, I will inform the other admins immediately. How will we be discussing the video scripts? E.g. Email, Skype, etc. And will multiple users/admins collaborate on each script?
Hey Heshbruwn, thanks for your feedback! We are still finding ways how to work together with users and we are testing different approaches. Depending on the video formats that we plan for the wiki in the future we may reach out to you and will ask for specific support from you as experts about the topic.
Did you ever get your gift from the devs. I got an email from them and sent my address almost a month ago. I'm not sure how long the shipping should take since the HQ is across an ocean from.
I hate to butt in, but I haven't gotten mine either. I've ordered things from the Czech Republic before, and they usually arrive in the U.S. within a month or so. Although I did have a package get hung up in Customs in Chicago for 2 weeks.
Heshbruwn wrote: Thanks :) Please update us if they reply
Sorry for the late reply. Got a response from Guerilla Games yesterday.
They said that the gifts hadn't actually been dispatched yet, but they were going to put them in the mail yesterday and they should arrive in the US within 2-3 weeks.
Hey, I wasn't quite sure where to bring this up, but "meta" pages like the To-Do List, Rules of Conduct, Editing Guidelines, etc. should probably be placed in the "Horizon Zero Dawn Wikia" namespace (i.e. prefixed with "Horizon Zero Dawn Wikia:" in their titles). This keeps them separate from standard game-related articles.
Er, I just realized that didn't actually work. Merely prefixing it to the title won't actually change the namespace; to properly change it, you need to select it from the dropdown when renaming, like this.
No worries! The ins and outs of wikis are really confusing- I was lucky enough to be made admin on an already well-established wiki when I started out, but without that guidance I'd undoubtedly be pretty lost myself.
Incidentally, I'd recommend checking out Special:SpecialPages if you haven't already- I've found it very helpful for getting a general idea of the state of the wiki.
Hey there Heshbruwn! A member of Guerrilla Games' community team reached out to me on Twitter and told me they were interested in sending some power contributors of the wiki a gift for all the hard work they've put in here : > Please send me an email at doug@fandom.com and I will relay your email to them. Thanks again for all the hard work!
Hey !
Need to discuss some stuffs with u regarding the wikia .. But i think its best to do it in a private message. Do u have any social media that we could discuss in ?
I prefer not to put my social media links on the wiki, sorry :\ If you want, we can arrange a time and date where we can pop by in the chat so you can private message me. We're both in Asia so timezones shouldn't be much of a problem.
Personally, I prefer to use past tense for all articles, not sure for the other admins though. I will be creating another article called "Editing Guidelines" for all admins and fandom staff to discuss in its talk page before reaching a consensus.
Hello! I've been stalking the wiki for a few days now and noticed there's quite an amount of information missing or otherwise needing to be worked on. Since there doesn't seem to be a "To-do" page and I'm uncertain if there's any order as to what should be worked on first, I've decided to approach you and see what needs some work.
Somebody could start a blog with a to-do/improvement list, like I did over on the Revolution wiki. That way, users could comment and share their input on the ideas.
I'd definitely like that a lot, that would give us a platform to discuss things that need to be done as well and new members would know where to add information they've got on these topics since we could directly link these pages.
If anyone needs visuals as to how it could look, we have a section called "Helping out" at the main page of the Kingdom Hearts wiki where the main projects are featured. Additionally we also have a forum where users can bring up discussions and concerns regarding the operation of the wiki. (Forgive me if I cannot provide links at the moment)
Having a To-Do does sound pretty good so that we have a clear idea on how else to improve the wiki. Currently I am debating on whether to make it an article like the ones I see in the Summoners War and Subnautica Wikis, or make it blog post, as making the To-Do as an article allows for all users to edit and update it freely.
Also, since this Wiki is fitted with a discussion board instead of the traditional forum page, I added a "Wiki Suggestions" category to the discussions board so that we can discuss any potential ideas on improving the wiki there.
If there are any other suggestions, keep em coming. :)
So this is something I know I'm guilty of but I think we have a rampant problem with adding categories. One problem I see is redundancy. If, say, the shield weaver outfit is in the category very rare outfits does it also need to be in the outfits super category? The other problem I see is vagueness. For some categories I'm not sure what the criteria is. Like what falls under "Lore" is it just backstory or also current events, is it terminology or also tangible items?
On the subject of categorisation, if there is a subcategory that fits the article, then it should not be in the super category. Unless it does not fall into any subcategories, then it can be on its own in the super category. An example would be the Quests and Weapons category. As reference to another wiki, this page on the Dishonored wiki seems good too. Maybe I should create an article to clear things up on categorisation so others may see? Hmm...
On the subject of the Lore category, from what I can tell, it consists of events that happened, be it during the Old Ones' period or in Aloy's period (e.g. Project Zero Dawn and Proving Massacre) or anything that can give us background information (take Datapoints for example). If you need further clarification, you can write in the Talk page for the Lore category.
So I've kinda worked out a top down layout of categories under gameplay annotated with my reasonings and would like your input. It's in a word doc though so I'm not sure how to share it.
I've added some of my thoughts to the comments of the blog. You should the other admins to see what they think as well. After we confirm the categorising, we should create a separate article that editors can read on how to go about categorising (so that they don't have to read the entire chunk). That way, it can be linked in the welcome message.
I tried searching if there were ways for admin to have a private forum but apparently it is not allowed (?). This is the link I found. Probably have to ask them on their message walls I think.
